A 70ft Classic Schooner in survey for day charter. Beautifully finished and fitted out, superbly well maintained, comfortable and sea kindly. With masthead rig, furling headsails and a lifting pivoted centerplate, she’s the ultimate blend of traditional character and modern gear and rig.
A very appealing schooner designed and built by Lex Lundmark in 1960 for his wife and himself to cruise the Pacific in Captain Cook’s footsteps.
This vessel has been in the owner’s family since she was built and has consequently been a labour of love for all involved. “I even made the wheel myself,” the owner told an Australian newspaper in the 1960s.
Son John rebuilt and refitted Haparanda in 2008 and has kept her in perfect condition since then. He has installed the latest hydraulics and navigation technology while carefully retaining her original distinctive and elegant style.
Apart from a comfortable recreational yacht with character, Haparanda is currently in survey for charter and is a popular choice with her accommodation for 10 overnight plus two crew, with plenty of deck space for 20 day guests. Being in charter, a new owner has the flexibility to defray berth and maintenance costs.
She is powered by a 127 hp Gardner engine which provides a cruising speed of nine knots making her an efficient motorsailer if preferred. Her aesthetic appeal has made her desirable as seagoing transport for film producers too. (She has featured in NZ films – more info available by request).
